1970 - 1979

It was about this time that the elders decided that we should concentrate our mission efforts with the Herald of Truth in Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, instead of scattering our support to over 14 different mission points around the world. Here in the states we supported rural churches in Utah and even an evangelist with a mobile pulpit in New Jersey. But focusing our efforts gave us the ability to be much more effective in our mission work. The Lou and Teresa Seckler family went to Portugal, but they have returned to Abilene and Lou works for the Herald of Truth with the churches and preachers in Mexico. The leader of the work in Spain was, and still is, Juan Monroy, who has helped establish over 50 churches in Spain during his 35 year association with Highland and Herald of Truth. In addition to Spain, Juan is diligently working in Cuba, where there are many churches now meeting in buildings and houses.

In 1972, a young, dynamic Canadian minister moved to Abilene to join the Highland family as the pulpit minister. Lynn Anderson served at Highland for over 19 years and had an enormous impact on the church. He emphasized the need for elders to lead by nurturing and shepherding the church. He constantly held before the church the dream of being focused on Jesus Christ while reaching out to all people. Lynn and his wife Carolyn left in 1990 to minister in the Dallas area.
