Highland's Dinner Fellowship Ministry
What is "Dinner Fellowship?"
Dinner Fellowship is a time to meet people and share a meal together. Small groups of Highland members meet for a meal and to get to know one another better. Dinner Fellowship offers an opportunity to visit with people we may not ordinarily have a chance to meet.
Who is involved?
Any adult who wants to participate is encouraged to sign up. This includes adults of all ages and stages of life (singles, couples, widows/widowers, college students). Everyone is invited to participate!
What does a host do?
A host will receive a list of names (approximately 8-12 adults). The host decides the details (when and were to meet, whether or not to include children, and what type of food to serve). The host contacts the people in their group inviting them to dinner. Each person brings a dish to share.
Every month, names of Highland members who are involved in this ministry are reshuffled and new groups are formed, giving us a chance to meet new people. The purpose is to provide opportunities for fellowship and to build community.
How often does Dinner Fellowship meet?
We meet once a month. Each time the groups are changed.
Do we have to meet in homes?
No. Some hosts may not want to meet in their home. Hosts can plan to meet somewhere else, like a park or in a room at Highland.
Who brings the food?
Everyone brings part of the meal.
If I feel uncomfortable going alone, can I go with a friend?
Definitely. Couples are automatically assigned to the same group, and singles may sign up with another person.
Are children involved?
It's up to the host. Sometimes the host may decide to have an "adult only" dinner; other times they may include children.
Do I need to sign up every time?
No. You will automatically be assigned to a new group each time after your initial sign-up.
What are some Dinner Fellowship ideas?
For example, you may invite your guests to your home for a Friday night Mexican dinner. Your make enchiladas and ask one guest to bring a salad, another a dessert, and another drinks and bread.
Or maybe you decide to meet Sunday after the morning service. You can call and reserve a room at Highland and have a pot luck dinner. Everyone brings what they want to share.
You could host a Super Bowl party and ask everyone to bring finger foods and drinks.
For those who like the outdoors, you could decide to have a picnic at the park. Someone brings the meat, someone else brings potato salad, someone else brings dessert, etc.
