August Fellowship Night

His Kids Ministry and Highland Student Ministry have been praying and pondering together over the last few months about Family Nights for this upcoming year. We believe this time is a precious opportunity for familial community, but we have also been listening to you and your family's needs.
We have decided to shift the framing of "Family Nights" into something that we believe will fill the needs of our community better. We will start having Fellowship Nights starting August 26th.
What we are committed to:
Providing an opportunity for families to be together, sharing a meal with members of our community, and engaging in the spiritual discipline of holy listening with one another.
What we are changing:
These nights will be formatted very similarly, but include additional groups at Highland beyond just kids and parents: We want those who have been coming to continue to attend, we want students at Highland who come to Huddles without their parents to show up on these nights, we want our volunteers who don't have children to attend, and we want to scaffold an easy intergenerational opportunity for some of our older members and empty nesters.
While we still believe that it is important for families to engage in spiritual formation together, we also believe our church family can help. We hope families will take this opportunity to keep the being together and listening to each other. We hope our older members and Elders can pastorally care for our parents by enjoying time together and learning about their current season of life. We hope our youngest friends can care for our empty nesters by reminding them of their value in the Body of Christ.
The Flow:
6:30 pm - Dinner is served. Families sit at tables together and with the community. Phones, watches and other smart devices are encouraged to go in the basket at the center of the table for the evening. There are silly discussion questions as conversation starters on the tables.
6:45 pm - Prayer for the meal
7:00 pm - Invitation into more intentional conversation questions
7:15 pm - Closing prayer and clean up instructions
Date: August 26 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Huddles and His Kids elementary classes will not meet so that everyone can participate. Childcare will be available for younger children in the His Kids Worship room and the indoor playground if you would like to utilize it.
Dinner: Taco Stack (beef and chicken), beans, rice and fruit
We’ll also provide water, lemonade and dessert.
Cost: Suggested $5/person or $20/ family for dinner
Please do not let the cost of the meal stop your family from participating!
